Nearly had an eventful night in Saigon last night. I was awoken at 4:45am as someone tried to enter my hotel room. Luckily I had put the chain across the door. They managed to get the door open but the chain stopped them getting any further. I woke up, shouted and they bolted. Didnt bother reporting it to the hotel because there was nothing they could do apart from call the cops and that would have kept me up for the rest of the night.
Hopped a plane to Phnom Penh this morning. It’s a long 45 minute flight! Arrived here about 1pm and got to my room to find it had no balcony (I had specifically asked for one). They moved me to another room – one that had only just finished being renovated. Tried to connect to the Wifi and couldnt. Went out and found housekeeping who told me that these rooms are wired because the wifi doesnt reach that far. Looked for the socket and couldnt find it. Housekeeping couldnt find the socket either.
The guy from housekeeping called someone else who had a look around and decided that it had been covered up by a mirror. He called a third guy. Between the 3 of them, they took down a huge 4 ft x 3ft mirror and there behind it was the internet socket 🙂 They then moved the socket and put the mirror back up. I admit I was laughing quite a lot but so were they. Who in their right mind screws a mirror over the top of a brand new socket?
Anyway… I now have wired internet 🙂
Went for a brief walk around town. Ate some dinner, took some photos and now I’m tired and nearly ready to crash out and its only 7pm…
