Laos (pronounced Lao – the “s” is silent) is very much wow! We spent two wonderful days on the slow boat in the Mekong and had a great time. The weather was perfect, the scenery was incredible, the family who owned the boat and our guide, Aki, took brilliant care of us. It was extremely relaxing and a very pleasant way to spend 2 days.
After an overnight in Pak Beng village and a further 9 hours up the river, we arrived in Luang Prabang last night. A quick wander around the night markets and some dinner. I then posted to fb and the blog before crashing out. Dont know why I was so tired but it could have been that I was totally relaxed after our last couple of days. Today we visitied a museum and have been out to a waterfall which was pretty spectacular. Since this is currently dry season, I can only imagine what the waterfall would look like in wet season. I nearly didnt go because my knee is sore after a tumble yesterday – basically I hadnt found my land legs, bent down to take a photo of a kid and didnt get up again. Nothing serious… just sore. I am however extremely glad I went out to the waterfall.
Tonight we have dinner with a local family which should be an interesting experience. Might go down to the night markets and get a massage after dinner but we’ll see how it goes as tomorrow is a free day in Luang Prabang before moving on to Vientienne (a 7 hour bus ride that I am NOT looking forward to)
In a way I cant believe a week has gone so quickly. It’s been a really good trip so far but 3 nights in Luang Prabang is great as it’s nice to stay in one place for a little while.
Cheers
KC
