Having seen a Doctor in Hong Kong and spoken to a Doctor in the UK, I was confirmed with a chest and streptococcus infection – both of which had been hanging around for a month. I’ve been prescribed a pile of medication which I have been taking and is making a difference.

Prescribed drugs!

Prescribed drugs!

On Thursday night I made a decision to fly back to the UK to try and get better because the truth is that I had got to a point where I was no longer enjoying travelling whilst I was feeling ill. I was coughing really badly – mostly at night and my throat was incredibly sore. After picking up my passport on Friday night, I arrived home on last Saturday evening (12th May) and I think that just being home has made me feel better.

At the moment I am on a high protein diet to build up my immune system, am finishing off the drugs that I was given in Hong Kong and am taking vitamins to try and get me back to normal. Having felt ill for so long, it’s nice to be home. Sleeping in my own bed is a real luxury! I’ve hardly left the flat since I got home, hadnt even had a cup of coffee until today and when I did, it made me feel really ill so I wont be doing that again in a hurry.

I dont know how long I am going to be at home for – until I feel better is probably the answer. I need to be in Beijing at the beginning of July to do the Trans-Mongolian and I’d like to go to South Korea and Japan at the very least so I guess I want to be gone by about 10th June at the very latest which gives me just over 3 weeks to get better. Ideally I would prefer to be out of here earlier than that but I’ll just have to wait and see how things go.

Until then, the blog updates will be health updates… boring to say the least!
