My 100th country and I absolutely loved Taipei! Had my trip into China and NK not be planned I would have spent much more time in Taiwan. Whilst Taipei isnt exactly cheap, it was a geeks dream. Everything you wanted from an electronics perspective was there. Before I get into too much detail, let me tell you my Taipei experience.

If you are an insomniac, Taipei is the place for you. Should you wake up in the middle of the night and feel a little peckish, it’s okay because McDonalds is open 24hrs a day… and they deliver. Need a book to read? No problem. There are 24 hour book stores. Just cant relax? It’s okay because the massage places are open 24hrs and you can get a back or foot massage whenever you want. Just to set the record straight, these are legitimate massage places not the happy ending variety.

I went to get a foot massage the day I arrived. Having had my small stomach issue a few days earlier, my foot masseur actually told me that my stomach had been sick because when he touched a part of my foot, it hurt like hell. I was impressed!

On the second day there I did the normal tourist outings and went to see the Palace Museum, Changing of the Guards, Chiang Memorial etc.

On day 3, I went to the top of Taipei 101. Naturally the weather turned bad as I was on my way up so they closed the outdoor viewing area before I could get to it.

Leaving Taipei 101 I stumbled across a computer/technology show which of course I spent a silly amount of time in. Must admit I really enjoyed it 🙂

Day 4, it pee’d with rain so I decided to have a day out from travelling and just stay in the hotel. About 1pm the hotel reception called and asked if they could clean my room. I told them not to bother. Next thing I knew, the staff were knocking on my door with a plate of fruit. It turns out that they thought I was sick. Never had that from a hotel before. It was a really nice thought.

Day 5 , domestic duties… Washing clothes in a laundromat that only has Taiwanese instructions is an entertaining prospect. I am glad to say that I succeeded.

Day 6 was time to say good bye to Taiwan… Off to Hong Kong for one night only.

In a nutshell, I like the Taiwanese people. Food there is good… well worth another visit one day. Next time I may even get out of Taipei and see the rest of the country.
