I left Cambodia yesterday to arrive back in Bangkok for 4 days of R&R (and preparation) before heading off to Myanmar. Cambodia was a fascinating country with an amazing history. I still dont understand how people live side by side with people who not so many years ago would have killed them without a second thought. Politics is rarely discussed but I’m not sure how this country can forgive it’s people for some of the things they did to eachother.

When I was in Siem Reap I was talking to some people at one of the temples. One of the women told me she was 47 years old which meant that she would have been a teenager during Pol Pot’s time. I kept thinking that she would have had a hell of a life, automatically assuming that she would have been one of the targeted people but then I though about it and for all I know she could have been Khymer Rouge… How would you know? I just assumed that she wasnt.

In anycase, I really liked Cambodia but I’m not sure I would want to go back there.

Last night I met Anne and Carol in Bangkok – We travelled together for 2 weeks as part of the original group and they have decided to join me in Myanmar. This morning we went off to go and do a Foodie Tour of Bangkok and it was really good. We ate some great food at local restaurants but after 3 hours of walking and eating were totally full! Well worth doing a Foodie Tour if you are ever in Bangkok.

The afternoon was spent trying to get stuff ready for Myanmar – basically running around and finding unused 100 US Dollar notes. That’s done now though. Strangely enough we got them in a jewellery shop!

Finally a little bit of shopping and I finally managed to get some ham, bread and pickles to fulfill my ham sandwich craving that I have had for the last couple of weeks.

Now I’m a happy child šŸ™‚

see ya later…
