There are some places that you just cant help falling in love with and Charlottetown is one of them. It is a very pretty little place with friendly town folk.

Being a seafood haven, I decided to do a Culinary walking tour of Charlottetown which had two benefits… I got to taste the food and I got a great lay of the land. Neither of those is a negative!

First up was oysters! Now I love Oyster anyway they come. Raw, cooked… it’s all good! The raw oysters on Prince Edward Island were superb!!

Oysters!

Amongst the other things we tried were:

  • Ice-cream – PEI Ice-cream has been voted the best in the world.
  • Beer – Who can say no to Chocolate beer brewed in a micro brewery? Unfortunately only a non-drinker… me ;(
  • Vodka – more alcohol? Gone are the days that I would have guzzled it down. None for me but I did get some really nice blueberry juice instead.
  • Chocolate covered crisps/chips – ’nuff said 🙂
  • Mussels – cooked in white wine, garlic, onion and celery… to die for!
  • chips/french fries – cooked with PEI potatoes. Nice and fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
  • lobster roll – made with the freshest of lobster meat.

Now before you all think I am cheating, PEI is counted by the Travellers Century Club as being geographically dispersed from Canada and is therefore counted as being it’s own country… So this made it number 111.

Before anyone accuses me of cheating (and it does feel like it a bit), this comes from:

“the Travelers’ Century Club’s official list of countries, a total of 321 as of July 2011. Although some are not actually countries in their own right, they have been included because they are removed from parent, either geographically, politically or ethnologically”

I really enjoyed PEI and would happily add it to the places I would like to live… if only there wasnt winter to consider!!
