Having walked around Listvyanka today I am tempted to write a blog post entitled “Bizarre Places I have been.” I cant say this is anywhere near being my favourite place in the world. It seems to be like a very poor version of Brighton with pebble foreshores and a very “beachside” weird town. I’m struggling to even describe this place. The lake is really foggy and you cant see out to it. There was an option to take a boat trip but I didnt see the point since it went straight out into the fog and back again. Since you couldnt actually see anything I chose not to go out on the boat.

The Lake itself is a little interesting in that it is the worlds oldest lake. It is 1637m deep and contains roughly 20% of the world’s freshwater supplies. They estimate that if the world ran out of water that everyone in the world could live on the water in Lake Baikal for 40 years. According to superstition if you dip your hand in the lake it will add a year to your life. Put your feet in as well and it adds 5 years and if you swim in it, you add 25 years to your life. As far as swimming was concerned, it was somewhere between 5 and 8 degrees in that water and I sure as hell wasnt going to go in!
